CCL’s customer services team often have to deal with unusual tasks however a recent job for a customer, NCE Switchgear, required Stevie Conway, CCLs Haulage General Manager, to use his ingenuity. When delivering control panels from Clydebank, Glasgow to Cruachan Power Station (Loch Awe), a 2 mile long, 11ft 6 high tunnel on the approach road to the Power Station meant that the hiab delivery vehicle was unable to get through the tunnel, due to its height being 13ft. Not to be deterred, CCL pulled out all the stops using their vast array of specialist contractors to organise a second operator to transport the panels through the tunnel using a tractor pulling a low loader. The panels were then loaded onto a second delivery vehicle and transported the remaining distance to the power station. With the power station having to close for 6 hours, and the tractor making numerous journeys through the tunnel, between the two vehicles, the job was finally completed at 2am, with Powermann’s (NCE Switchgears customer) being delighted with the thought and effort that went into the job.
