CCL goes that extra mile ....... by tractor July 2009
CCL goes that extra mile ....... by tractor

CCL’s customer services team often have to deal with unusual tasks however a recent job for a customer, NCE Switchgear, required Stevie Conway, CCLs Haulage General Manager, to use his ingenuity.   When delivering control panels from Clydebank, Glasgow to Cruachan Power Station (Loch Awe), a 2 mile long, 11ft 6 high tunnel on the approach road to the Power Station meant that the hiab delivery vehicle was unable to get through the tunnel, due to its height being 13ft.   Not to be deterred, CCL pulled out all the stops using their vast array of specialist contractors to organise a second operator to transport the panels through the tunnel using a tractor pulling a low loader.  The panels were then loaded onto a second delivery vehicle and transported the remaining distance to the power station.       With the power station having to close for 6 hours, and the tractor making numerous journeys through the tunnel, between the two vehicles, the job was finally completed at 2am, with Powermann’s (NCE Switchgears customer) being delighted with the thought and effort that went into the job.

CCL deliver the perfect wedding May 2009
CCL deliver the perfect wedding

With CCLs ability to move any size of freight, from the smallest envelope to the largest freight container, moving a Church (and its pews and pulpit!) from Greenock to a Texan Golf Course was not problem! Dismantled stone by stone, shipped to Texas and then rebuilt in the middle of a Texan Golf Course where every hole of the golf course is built to replicate holes from Scottish Golf Courses, the Church, which was built in 1847, will be used as a wedding chapel.

CCL receive the Healthy Working Lives Bronze Award

The 16 May 2008 is a healthy day in the history of CCL – for this is the day that they received the Healthy Working Lives Bronze Award. Healthy Working Lives is a programme run by NHS Scotland, which is designed to improve health and wellbeing in the workplace, as well as provide advice and resources to businesses of all sizes.

A spokesman for the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives said: “A healthy and motivated workforce is a key source of competitive advantage. Working towards this award can improve productivity, enhance the company’s reputation as a responsible, well managed organisation and contribute to the health of the wider community.”

The programme provides a clear evidence based framework designed to provide a step by step route to improving health at work, including healthy eating, health and safety awareness, supporting staff attendance and addressing mental health and wellbeing issues. One of the areas covered in the Award is healthy eating, and at CCL there are twice-weekly deliveries of fresh fruit as well as a monthly healthy staff lunch – courtesy of the company.

CEO Callum Bastock said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive the Bronze Award.   Our staff are very important to us, and their health and wellbeing are paramount.  They work hard each day co-ordinating the deliveries for our customers and in return we do whatever we can to keep them healthy and happy.   Providing fruit and healthy lunches is just one of the ways we do this, and it is also my way of thanking them for their efforts.”

Not content with receiving the Bronze Award, CCL is already working on the next level – the Healthy Working Lives Silver Award. For further information on Healthy Working Lives visit www.healthyworkinglives.com or telephone 0800 019 2211.

CCL wins Best Performing Business Award 2007/2008

CCL was again in the winner’s circle at this year’s Ayrshire Business Awards hosted by Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire and sponsored by the Clydesdale Bank.

At a gala ceremony at the Park Hotel, Kilmarnock in February, CCL lifted the prestigious award for Best Performing Business.

Managing Director Callum Bastock said: “This award is recognition of the tremendous effort all the staff have made to ensure that CCL is a dynamic, forward thinking and customer friendly company.
The judging criteria for this award focused strongly on sustainable growth, innovation in the marketplace and the quality of customer service and I am delighted that we have been judged to have excelled in all these areas of our business.”

At the ceremony, Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire Operations Director Evelyn McCann said the high attendance demonstrated the strong level of commitment from the public and private sectors to ensuring Ayrshire had a vibrant and dynamic economy.   She congratulated all the finalists and told the audience: “These business awards are a tremendous opportunity to recognise and showcase Ayrshire’s top performers.  In addition to overall performance, we focus on some of those characteristics that are likely to bring about business success - entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, accessing international markets, utilising technology, and investing in skills and learning.”

Willie Mackie, managing partner of the Clydesdale BAnk said: “The competition was as fierce as ever and the diverse range of sectors demonstrates the strength and depth of the business community in Ayrshire."
